Born in Murano in 1963, Mario Furlan grew up in continuous contact with the world of Artistic Glass of Murano Island, as his father Walter was a renowned Master Glassmaker.
After graduating from the Venice State Institute of Art, Mario then enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice from which he graduated with honors.
At the Academy, he had the opportunity to attend the lectures of important Artists (such as Emilio Vedova, Fabrizio Plessi, Ennio Chiggio, Carmelo Zotti, Ennio Finzi, Vittorio Basaglia) from whom he draws important lessons and inspirations. Since the period of his studies Mario has been active in the field of art in Venice, attending the exhibitions of the Bevilacqua la Masa Foundation and obtaining recognitions as a young artist.
In 1987, he joins his father’s forge to actively collaborate in the creation of glass works, flanking Walter and learning the different processing techniques that will become his own throughout the years. Great importance for the maturation of Mario, as master of glass sculptures, have had the many moments of dialogue with Walter at the end of the work, made to understand how to produce new works or to clarify how to proceed with the works of artists with whom Walter collaborated and with whom Mario still collaborates today.
In his works, Mario is always striving to discover new manufacturing techniques, ensuring to not distort the true essence of Murano glass and to not misrepresent the ancient knowledge handed down from generation to generation.
